Deleting your data
Two different things, depending on what you want gone: you can disconnect one account and leave the rest of CIERA alone, or you can delete everything.
Disconnect one account
This stops CIERA reading that account and deletes our copy of the keys it used. Nothing else about your CIERA account changes.
- Instagram — in the app, You → Instagram, then Disconnect. You can also remove CIERA from Instagram itself, under Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites.
- A mailbox — You → Mailboxes, then Disconnect. For a Google account you can also revoke us at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- WhatsApp — You → WhatsApp, then Disconnect.
- A calendar — You → Calendars, then Disconnect.
Messages already delivered to your own device stay on your device, under your control, until you delete the app.
Delete everything
In the app, go to You → Delete account. This erases your businesses, contacts, conversations, invoices, books and every connected account, and it cannot be undone. You are offered an export first.
If you cannot reach the app, email walbertyn@ciera.co.za from the address on your account, or from the email address you connected, and say you want your data deleted. We will confirm it is done within seven days, and normally within one business day (SAST).
If you arrived here from Instagram
Removing CIERA from your Instagram settings tells us immediately, and we disconnect that account and delete the keys it used the moment we hear. Instagram will have shown you a confirmation code; quote it to us at the email address above if you want the conversations themselves erased as well, or use You → Delete account in the app to remove everything at once.
What happens to data we hold for someone else
If you are not a CIERA customer but a CIERA customer has messaged you, we may hold your message and your name as part of their conversation history, in the same way their phone does. Email us at the address above and we will remove what identifies you from our copy. We will ask you for enough detail to find it and nothing more.
How long anything survives a deletion
Deletion from our database is immediate. Encrypted backups roll off within 30 days, and nothing is restored from them except to recover from a failure. Where the law requires us to keep a financial record, such as an invoice already issued, we keep only that record and nothing else.
